SEND and Inclusion at Nethersole Primary Academy
Nethersole is a Church of England primary school where every child is welcomed, valued and loved.
The school’s purpose is to serve our community by providing each child with the education they need to flourish and each family the support they need to thrive.
At our school, every child is part of our school family. Each child is unique, and has unique needs. Our aim is to meet every child’s needs by giving them what they need in order to thrive- not survive- in school.
At Nethersole, we are proud to have a positive ethos of inclusion for all our children who have additional or special educational needs. All staff, in liaison with parents, work hard to ensure the needs of all children with any additional need are supported and challenged.
All teaching staff endeavour to ensure that all children make progress and achieve to the best of their ability regardless of their starting point. This includes socially, personally, morally and spiritually; regardless of their gender, ethnicity, religion, social background, sexual identity, physical ability or educational needs. We recognise that sometimes children may need extra support to achieve to their full potential.
BDMAT – Vision for SEND
Our school is proud to be part of the Birmingham Diocesan Multi-Academy Trust (BDMAT). We are committed to upholding the Trust’s vision and principles of belonging, which underpin everything we do.
BDMAT’s vision for SEND is to ensure that every pupil feels a true sense of belonging and is empowered to achieve their very best. This is driven by the Five Principles of Belonging, which guide our approach:
- Dignity for ALL Children who learn at different rates are embraced; their education should be characterised by dignity and learning with support for their needs.
- All empowered to enact change
Accountability and action at all levels — everyone across BDMAT has the agency and responsibility to act. - Together we thrive
Greater complexity merits greater expertise — All professionals working in BDMAT have a responsibility to provide a high-quality education for all where all children across the trust thrive. - Great destinations, different journeys
Children who learn at different rates are embraced across BDMAT — education is characterised by recognising that some children may have a different journey but will still reach the destination they are capable of. - Celebrating every success
Success does not look the same for all children within BDMAT — we value and celebrate a wide range of achievements and experiences, including different ways of participating in and contributing to society.
These principles are embedded in our daily practice and reflected in our SEND guarantee for all pupils across the Trust.

Simmonds – Our Specialist Resource Provision
Simmonds Class is our specialist resource provision for pupils with communication and interaction needs, opened in partnership with Warwickshire County Council in January 2026. The provision offers a nurturing and structured environment designed to support children whose needs cannot be fully met within a mainstream classroom. All pupils in Bronze Class have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), with placement decisions made and agreed by Warwickshire Local Authority. Our team provides a tailored curriculum, specialist teaching approaches and targeted support to help every child develop their communication skills, confidence and independence.
